Being familiar with cats I have a strong intuition that there would be a great deal of pain if a cat were to be wrapped around your neck in such conditions. Pitty Sing likely dug his claws into Bailey's shoulder and neck as he hung on for life while the car rolled. That had to hurt although the story doesn't directly express what pain Bailey had to have felt.
